We would like to welcome Graeme Walker who joined our Sales Team on the 2nd October 2006. Graeme will be covering the areas of West Midlands, East Midlands, Birmingham, Shropshire, South Wales and the South West.
Graeme brings to Evolution a knowledge of the construction and engineering markets, having been with Liebig and for 14years with ITW. Graeme lives in Worcester and is married to Louise.

EVOLUTION ACHIEVE METSEC SFS APPROVAL

Evolution Fasteners (UK) Ltd have joined the group of fixing manufacturers and suppliers who have fasteners approved for use by Metsec SFS.
Metsec are the leading
designers and manufacturers of steel framing systems, cold rolled sections and profiles in the UK.
Evolution have twenty one screws and light fixing types approved, further widening the choice of 'safe to use' self-drilling screws and fasteners available to the steel framing installer.
Achieving these approvals marks another step forward for Evolution Fasteners self-drilling construction screw programs. Scott Anderson, Sales Team Leader, points out 'our tek screw ranges have been the preferred choice with our customers and installers in the framing industry for some time now, but with this latest development I am sure that we will see this popularity increase again'.

NEW WEBSITE LAUNCH.
(June 2006)
Evolution are pleased to announce their new website will be up and running as of June. The new site will offer many features which we are hopeful you will make use of, including comprehensive information on all our products, 3D animation software that allows you to view images of our screws from all angles, training and promotional videos, request a screw feature, downloadable catalogue and data sheets as well as special offers and promotional items.
The site will be updated weekly to ensure all the information present is current.
Sales Manager Scott Anderson is looking forward to the launch- ‘The new website is going to be a god send for our customers and our sales team. The time between a request for information and receipt is as good as immediate as long as you have access to a PC and the internet. We are keen to keep up with the latest technologies and want to use the website and its features to offer an extra and essential service to our customers’.

IMPRESSIONS FROM TAIWAN AND CHINA.
(June 2006)
Evolution staff travelled to Taiwan and China in June to visit our manufacturing partners, with a view to further increasing our quality standards and improving logistics. This involved a detailed review of quality and stock control procedures.
The first part of the trip was in Taiwan where work included:
• Tests and reviews of a 75mm capable collated power tool, which should be available from the last quarter of the year...
• A successful test of an extension bar for a collated flooring tool.
• Design improvements to our collated fine thread consumables to enhance their penetration speed through 1mm of steel.
• A review on the manufacturing procedures of our fine thread phosphate coated drywall screws, where new techniques were initiated.
• Design improvements on Tek Screws to ensure even faster penetration through 12mm steel.
In China we concluded:
• Chinese factories continue to manufacture competent lightweight anchors at competitive prices.
• China offers great versatility on packaging.
• Factories are working at minimal margins and have significant exposure to cost excesses and foreign exchange risk.
• There are dramatically increasing numbers of screw manufacturing factories with ever increasing production.
• Quality standards of screws are generally lower than those in Taiwan. Whilst adequate for penetrating timber and sheet materials, in general, they do not meet Evolution standards for penetrating steel.
• Generally, documentation of quality control procedures do not meet our required standards.
• Quality of steel raw material, heat treatment processes and coatings are inferior to our Taiwanese production.
• Whilst steel costs have risen by more than 10% prices remain lower than Taiwan.
In conclusion it would seem clear that Taiwan remains the front runner in terms of quality production. Chinese production, on the other hand, whilst considerably cheaper, does not meet our required standards.

MARKETING MANAGER APPOINTED.

Evolution Fasteners Ltd were delighted to appoint Ewan Mckerracher as their new Marketing Manager in April. Ewan was brought in to add direction and creativity to Evolution’s Sales and Marketing strategy (as well as good looks and a sense of humour!).
Asked about his appointment Ewan was enthusiastic in his reply- ‘Obviously I’m over the moon to have this opportunity to get involved with a company of Evolutions reputation and potential. They are a young company with a diverse range of products in an exciting market and I felt it will be a wonderful challenge to come in and help develop the Evolution brand. My background in the three M’s- Marketing, Media and Manufacturing should stand me in good stead!’.

EVOLUTION LAUNCH COLLATED SYSTEM TO INTERNATIONAL AUDIENCE AT PRACTICAL WORLD FAIR IN COLOGNE.
(March 2006)
Amid freezing temperatures and blizzards, members of the Evolution team made it to Cologne, Germany in March for the Practical World Fair 2006.With almost 75,000 trade visitors from 140 countries, Practical World confirmed it’s status as the world’s leading industry trade fair and offered Evolution the chance to promote their Collated System to the wide international market.
Evolution Managing Director Michael Keisner was full of enthusiasm in saying ‘Practical World has given us the opportunity to let a massive audience of potential customers view our
collated system and give us their feedback on it. We will use this valuable information to continue to develop and improve already excellent products. Our Collated Screwdrivers have generated a huge buzz !’.
Once he managed to drag himself away from watching the ‘Miss DIY’ 2006 contest, Lawrence Sparks, Sales Manager for the South of England, was equally pleased with the show ‘It’s a long way to come for a trade show but we are all in agreement that it has been Evolution’s most successful to date’.

EVOLUTION COLLATED SYSTEM LAUNCHED
(March 2006)
Evolution launched their new Drywall Autofeed Screwdrivers in March to huge interest from customers looking for new tooling that offers performance, reliability and flexibility- guaranteed.
Evolution currently has two screw drivers available. The CDW110 (fig1.) which is mains
powered, lightweight and high speed. It has 7 separate screw settings which cover from 25 to 55mm collated screw lengths. The tool can also be used with loose drywall screws. The autofeed front end can be easilyremoved and replaced with the nose cone provided. This flexibiity between loose and collated drywall makes the tooling particularly suitable for the commercial dryliner, who regularly use both types of screw. Also, obviously, one power tool for both uses is cheaper and easier than two separate tools.
The second screwdriver (fig 2.) which has 14v battery power, comes supplied with a one hour fast charger and two batteries.
The unrivalled flexibility of cordless systems is well known, now Evolution have joined a very select group of manufacturers who offer this type of tooling in Europe.
Spares and servicing are made easier and simpler as both tools utilise the same high quality auto-feed front end. Spare parts and drives are also all 100% stock available next day within the UK.
For the future Evolution have in development a 75mm capable Autofeed front end and 18v power for the cordless range. A dedicated collated flooring tool should also be
available later in 2006.
